I joined Extreme Solutionaround a year ago. I’m not quite a person who loves change. Settling is my comfort zone and taking a decision to join a new place was a huge step to take. For me it was the step to challenge and do something new.
Before I started working at ES, I had the opportunity to have interviews with some great companies and back then it was not the right time to move forward for different reasons, luckily that time came by the end of 2016 when I got the offer from ES and accepted.
There’s always a Challenge
Working at ES is different than any other place I worked at before, a bigger team in a place that combines successful engineers, ongoing products that serves millions of users on different platforms. This was the first challenge. ES brings challenges spirit to everyone who joins, everyday has a new challenge, every new project is challenging.
With challenges there are risks to be taken, and we are given those chances to take risks to achieve something better.
Change is never easy
Yes, I’ve already said I’m a person who loves comfort zone, but Change at ES has also been challenging and different. The year I joined ES, we had the call to move from Waterfall to Agile. This was new to everyone but it was necessary to move forward and to truly understand what we are building, and to have a better and higher quality solution. Change is never easy and we had our falls at the beginning of this transition, but looking at how adopting Agile changed everyone in the team and what we had accomplished in those few months.
There is a change in mindset, there is a change in how we see our work and how we achieve it. The transition was a join company process and everyone is getting more involved in decisions and everyone has a better understanding of their responsibilities and roles that got changed after such transition.
With change, Evolve happens
ES has evolved in its lifetime, Starting from VAS and moving forward towards mobile which was the future at some point, ES is still evolving. From Waterfall to Agile, from the old and usual deployment ways to Automation with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery to DevOps. This Evolve has made each one a better engineer and made us be able to aim for perfection and delivering high quality products that serves millions of users around the world.
It’s not always about work
I cannot count the times we celebrated something, a birthday or an anniversary. Yes, we do love food. From Fried chicken to Pizza. No one eats alone. Coffee and Milky Tea are Essential parts of our morning routine. We make it easier for new hires to feel part of ES as quickly as possible. We recently re-painted our office and I myself have really enjoyed the experience. we all worked on something of our own hands, we picked the colors, we bought the materials and tools, and we start doing everything as one.
Before writing this, I thought it’s a cliché to write such thing but then I realized at the end that we do something great and we can do better. There’s always stressing times that we will handle and we will have bugs that we are going to fix. and each one who has worked at ES has evolved and will still evolve and grow.
